    GetGlobal 2018 Wrap-up

We were pleased to partner with GetGlobal for the 3rd year. The annual event last week brought some amazing people together, sharing key information on what is driving global business in order to keep attendees on the inside track.

There were quite a few members who attended! Special kudos go to Jill Bishop of Multilingual Connections based in Chicago but doing business everywhere... who was a sponsor at the event. Congrats, Jill! See some pictures below. That's Jill on the right, below, with Kuntal Warwick of Global Chamber San Diego (left) and Dr. Corinne Jenni of Strategati - based in Southern California.

    Collaboration

Collaboration is a key aspect of what we do at Global Chamber... in order to bring the clients, connections, resources and information needed by members to grow globally. For Southern California there are dozens of groups we work with... including this GetGlobal Conference. We also collaborate with ENP Institute - which hosted DisruptHR 4.0 in San Diego last week, too. Other collaborators include chambers like North County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, US government organizations including USTDA and Exim Bank, other entities like the consulates of Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan, and business groups like the British American Business Council and MAPLE® Business Council.

We're pleased to be ramping up our activities in 2018!

Watch for plenty of events and opportunities to connect within the region and well beyond.

Warm connecting' is a focused, effective way of 'networking' advocated and practiced by Global Chamber®.

There are many ways to network. For many of our members, 'warm connecting' is the best because there is some thought about your business goals before making a warm introduction - and the person who is introduced is known and will very likely be interested to meet you. People are too busy these days to take meetings with people they don't know UNLESS the intro is from someone they know AND there appears to be something in it for them, as well.

Read more about 12 tips on warm connecting HERE. And join us to grow your business in warm and wonderful ways.

And we look forward to working with you in the LA metro in 2018 and beyond!

Primary Freight Inc., Global Chamber Los Angeles member that offers a complete range of global freight forwarding and logistics services hosted a very informative and entertaining session on Incoterms® today.  Speaker Dan Gardner, President of Trade Facilitators, Inc., a recognized resource on the topic, was entertaining and kept the audience engaged as he covered the history and evolution of this, unappreciated and important topic.

The audience included members of local academia, financial institutions, and industry that participate in Global Logistics.  The illustrations used by Mr. Gardner, both verbal and visual, were simple and clear - stimulating questions, comments and sharing by the attendees.  The "most important message", as stressed by Dan, is that Incoterms® are International Sales Rules that govern 3 critically important considerations:

    • At what physical point in a supply chain the risk of loss or damage to goods shift from seller to buyer
    • At what physical point in a supply chain the responsibility for all transportation, customs clearance, duties and related charges shift from seller to buyer
    • Responsibility between seller and buyer for execution of certain functional activities

Everyone came away from the session with a renewed understanding of Incoterms® and how important such an apparently simple part of the transaction can be.  The proper application of which can avoid conflict, confusion, and cost - because, as Dan said "everything is alright, until it isn't" and that is when the Incoterms®come into play to spell out whom is responsible for what.

Thanks to John Brown, President of Primary Freight, and his team for arranging this session and bringing in Mr. Gardner to share his experience with us!
